OK so you thought that I did a runner some time ago, huh?. Anyhow, welcome to Lucan's Lair... we really can talk about anything you like. This is my first effort so bear with me, but given time anything can happen.

Buncefield Explosion

Well, we slept through the whole thing.... and we live in Abbots Langley which is approximately 4 or 5 miles away.

Friends and colleagues of mine reported being awoken at 6am to the sound of their house shaking... and that was in Watford which is another 3 miles from here.

I thought that something was wrong when I noticed that there was a strange ominous cloud hanging over the village... It looked at first like a rather angry raincloud, but the more I saw it the more it troubled me. Today was truly a strange day in all accounts as we suffered from a powercut during the night and awoke to no heat, lights, fridge etc.. We called the Electricity Board and to cut a long story short, they came out and dealt with it. It was only after having the Radio on did we realise the extent of what had happened up the road from us.

The television has been on Sky and BBC news all day now and we have just found out that the schools are closed in the area so the children will be off for tomorrow at least.

I am not looking forward to the journey to work in the morning.... but I still can't believe we slept through it all... maybe the Chablis the night before assisted our blissful ignorance.

The Effing Seas

Well we didn't win the quiz nite tonight, but we bloody well tried... It all started with a bite to eat at the Fairway Inn at moor park.. must've been about 40 odd staff from Camelot joining in from the quiz, but the Effing Seas were not on true form.

With Mullers departure midway through the joust, we figured it was going to be tough and it was.... I am sure the Mullster would have known the answer to " If a dog is canine and a cat is feline.... what is the term for a bear?"... It happened to be Urceline.

Even though we played our joker in the Radio, TV and Films round and got 9-10 correct. Not enough... we came about 5th out of 10 or so... but to certain members of our team, winning was not the aim... just getting the Quizmaster to call our team name out was victory enough.

And it sounded good.... so good I wept.

Do you know the number on a dartboard between 16 and 9 ?

Neither did we ..... but we hoped that the bar next door at the Fairway had a dartboard ( we were almost certain there was one there last time )... so Kristian waited for a question or maybe two to be read afterwards before making his way through the said bar to the gents... only to turn around with a look of despair - we had to guess.

The thing about this kind of after work socialising is that you really get to find out a bit more about the day to day people that you work with, which I think is cool as you never really get the chance to say much in the office. It was a good leveller.... and we had a really good laugh too.

Big thanks for the Newellster for soberly transporting Kris and I back to Watford and Abbots Langley respectively.

Next time we shall try harder .... maybe the Hanlon will grace us with his membership to The Effing Seas.

until the next time.
